API 579 fitness for service analysis by digital twin
RAN Innovation provides Fitness For Service (FFS) analysis according to API 579-1, using finite element analysis for existing tanks.
The service
Surveys are conducted using 3D laser scanning:
- Internal surveys for new or maintained tanks
- External surveys for tanks in operation (bottom geometry cannot be scanned in this case)
The digital twin contains detailed data on geometry, materials, thicknesses and corrosion rates.
Buckling and large displacement non-linear analyses are performed, considering wind, seismic action, and varying fill conditions to assess safety over time.
